Due to the way the road curves in front of our house, the very first thing you see when you arrive at Perkins Place is the mailbox. Ours is looking cruddy. Not only have both the post and the mailbox seen better days, but the whole assembly leaned forward. In short, it looks awful.
It was easy enough to fix the leaning part with some gravel and some soil. I thought that I could use white spray paint to spruce it up a bit, but when I took a closer look, I could see that things were way too far gone for that. Both the post and the box are pitted, and some parts are rusted. Come to think of it, my dad installed that mailbox. I don’t know what year he did that, but he’s been gone since 1994, making the mailbox at least that old. It’s time for a refresh.
Mailboxes and posts are easy, affordable fixes. A couple of years ago, someone knocked over my Indiana mailbox and I quickly learned how to do that repair. It was much easier than I anticipated. I ordered this one from Amazon.
I didn’t have to drive the steel post provided into the ground because the new post slid very neatly over the existing wooden post. The whole thing took less than 30 minutes, and it really improved the curb appeal of the house. It is more expensive than repainting the old mailbox, but likely just as easy. I’m ordering another identical one for Perkins Place. I won’t be on-site for a few more weeks but once I get there and get it installed, I’ll post “after” pictures.
