I just returned from taking a two-day trip to Hocking Hills State Park in Logan, Ohio. What a spectacularly beautiful place it is! If you haven’t visited it yet, I highly suggest that you do. It was crowded over the Labor Day weekend and parking was a mess, but it was still well worth going to see.
Located in southeast Ohio, the park is free and open 365 days a year. Hocking Hills shows Mother Nature at her best. The trails are full of caves, waterfalls and rocky crags. It boasts seven hiking regions, two of which are wheelchair and stroller friendly. The other five, however, are not for those who are afraid of heights or have any physical impairments that make climbing stairs or walking in dirt/mud difficult. No matter what trail you opt to take, wear your hiking boots.
You can take your dog along with if you like, but if you do, I suggest that you stick to easier trails. I saw several people have to pick up their dogs and carry them over some of the trickier spots on the trails.
You’ll find restrooms at the trail head, both nice indoor facilities and those dreadful portable units. A small shop selling snacks and souvenirs is located near the parking lot. There are also shops and hotels in nearby Logan.
Visit the park site at https://thehockinghills.org for more information on events and camping facilities.
And if you can't go anytime soon, just scroll down this page and enjoy these pictures. Take a deep breath and imagine that you are there.
